First registered on the 25th July 1984 at E. J. Haines Fiat in Market Lavington, Devises for a Mrs Graham, this wonderfully angular two-tone Fiat Bertone X1/ 9 VS was hers until late in 1986 when it was acquired by a Mr Hampton, also of Wiltshire. He kept the car on the road right up until 2001, when it was sold on a further 3 times before being purchased in 2013 by the current owner, an avid collector of iconic Italian cars from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Not much is known about the car?s history between 2004 and at least 2010, when it was registered as SORN. The current owner purchased it as a rolling project, but after infrequent use it was clear that engine and mechanical work was required in order to get it zipping around B-roads as intended.
In 2016 the engine was fully dismantled and following a rather poor prognosis, the decision was made to purchase a fully re-conditioned engine and fit that instead of attempting to salvage the original damaged unit. Following this, a variety of additional work was completed in 2020. Receipts for all the work are present in the car?s history file.
Presented in its original two-tone red over grey metallic paint with a double gold pin-stripe between, this targa-topped wedge has the desirable ?Tron? alloy wheels. Whilst there are some minor age related marks on the paint, there is no lacquer peel or fading, and it is otherwise in straight and remarkably rust-free condition.
In addition to the original Bertone owners file, owner?s book and service book, The history file has a full folder of MOTs, all invoices from work undertaken by the current owner and a great number of historic receipts showing the care and maintenance its long-term owner undertook over the course of 15 years.
The car drives nicely, and is a wonderful choice for Italian-inspired motoring in 2024. It will be supplied with a fresh MOT upon purchase.
