Purchased by myself at the end of May 2021, this Alpine GTA V6 is 1 of only 212 made to this right-hand drive specification, and 1 of 20 on the road. Having been driven just over 73,000 miles by 9 former keepers, this car has been through the hands of several keen owners, including the wife of the Alpine Owners Club chairman from May 2000 until June 2010.

The most recent owner before I undertook a significant amount of work in order to start getting the car back to show standard, including a new clutch, custom stainless steel exhaust, brakes and suspension components. He also took the decision to change the original twin Solex carburettors for a new and much better Webber unit, which required a special adaptor plate to be made for the inlet. When I purchased the car it ran well, but was running a little hot, so I took considerable time to disassemble all the engine ancillaries and took considerable time flushing and cleaning the existing system to improve the running temperatures. Following my own work the car was now driving very well, but further work was needed beyond the reach of a driveway enthusiast in order to get it to showroom condition.

I entrusted the car to Retro Classic Engineering, who carried out further work to the car including replacing the gear linkage, starter motor and the dash speedo / rev counter cluster (the second time in the car?s history). This time, it was replaced with a brand-new unit to avoid future failure.

Once fully mechanically sound, the car was then stripped (including glass removal) for a full repaint as the original had faded significantly and the entire body was subject to serious lacquer peeling. I worked hard with the team at Retro Classic Engineering to ensure that the car was painted in the correct manner to ensure a long-lasting finish on the polycarbonate panels. I also chose to save and refurbish as many original parts as possible, due to their scarcity. The result is a car that now looks superb, drives brilliantly and is ready to present at shows or simply use as intended ? as a brilliant driver?s car.

A fairly comprehensive history file is included with lots of historic MOT certificates and invoices in addition to those for the more recent work detailed above. The original Alpine/Philips Radio, graphic EQ and “Micro Computer” are also included and complete, but not currently fitted.

It will be supplied with a fresh MOT upon purchase.

MODEL INFORMATION

Named after a jaunty ride through the Alps in his Citroen 4CV, Jean Renault started producing cars under the Alpine badge in 1955 after two recent wins at the Mille Miglia. Sales of perhaps the most well-known Alpine, the A110, were buoyed by rally success in the 1960s and 70s, culminating in an overall win at the World Rally Championship in 1973. The stunning A310 rolled off the Alpine production line in 1971, after which they helped to create the Renault 5 Alpine (rebadged Gordini over here) and the now-infamous Renault 5 Turbo.

In 1984 the Alpine GTA V6 2+2 coupe was launched featuring new techniques for the assembly of plastic components that influenced the design of future racing car construction. At the time of launch, and for some years afterwards, its design offered the lowest drag coefficient of any production car at just 0.28 Cd. For reference, the 2006 Koenigsegg CC8S has the same drag coefficient.
